Understanding the elements of design provides the freedom to paint your own vision and use your personal style. Without good composition a painting falls flat despite great colours, values, textures and subject matter.
Begin with strong ideas, and know when the idea is strong. Discover what makes a good image to paint.
Saturday morning.: discover methods for creating
dynamic designs. Look at why certain paintings work
and how they were composed. P.M. Paint the Trees
and Fireweed image along with Mirja, learning the
whys and hows of its design and layering (acrylics).
Day two: with guidance from Mirja, create a design
from your own photos and begin your new painting.
(Mirja can also provide an image.) We will discuss
what, why and when a photo is worth painting. Any
medium. Artists are welcome to bring works in
progress for feedback on what works and what can
increase visual impact.
